A new chapter for Leaper Air.

The Leaper Air™ first took shape in our Danish Custom Shop back in 2019, inspired by our love for the classic semi-hollow guitars of the late '50s.

We wanted to capture that warm, airy and slightly acoustic character that makes these guitars so special. A guitar with a big sound, plenty of versatility and a body that looks just as good on stage as it feels in your hands.

For years, the Leaper Air was only available as a Custom Shop instrument. Now, with the VEGA Series, we're bringing that same design and idea to more players.

The large semi-hollow maple body is built with a solid nyatoh center block, combining the natural resonance of a hollow construction with the sustain and punch of an electric guitar. Even unplugged, you can hear and feel the difference. The body responds to your playing, with an acoustic character that you can actually feel against yourself.

Despite its size, the Leaper Air is surprisingly comfortable. Its thin, curved body sits naturally against you, while the set-neck construction, satin-finished roasted maple neck and 12" radius rosewood fretboard give it a familiar, smooth playing feel.

At the heart of the Leaper Air are two Goldsound® Royal VEGA humbuckers.

Based on our original Royal pickups, they're voiced around the character of vintage humbuckers, with a little extra push when you need it.

The neck pickup uses an Alnico IV magnet, delivering a warm, rounded sound with a rich, almost vocal midrange. The bridge pickup uses Alnico V for a more open response, tighter attack and plenty of bite for riffs and driven tones.

It's a combination that lets the Leaper Air move comfortably between jazz, blues, funk and pop, while having enough punch for loud rock guitars and heavier riffs.

Building a semi-hollow guitar like this takes considerably more work than a typical solid-body instrument. With dedicated moulds made for our own body shape and a production partner capable of handling its detailed construction, we've been able to bring the Leaper Air into the VEGA Series while keeping the design and character that made the original special.

Baum Performer™ hardware includes 18:1 tuners, a tune-o-matic bridge and a traditional stop tailpiece, keeping the setup familiar and reliable.

Every Leaper Air VEGA is designed in Denmark and goes through final inspection, setup and play-testing by our team in Aarhus. It also comes with a Baum Deluxe Gigbag, ready for rehearsals, gigs and whatever comes next.

It's our biggest guitar. And quite possibly our biggest sound.

Born in our Custom Shop in 2019.
