Monthly Update 4: Paintwork and Putting It Together
Things are getting vibrant. Your guitar is currently in the paint shop, receiving the finish that will define its look on stage.
Painting a Baum is a meticulous, multi-step process. Most of our popular colours are our own custom blends, designed to stand out subtly without shouting. We begin by prepping the wood, sanding it perfectly smooth, and applying a primer to create a uniform base. Then comes the colour. We spray multiple thin coats, whether it's a solid, metallic, or transparent finish.
We exclusively use a very thin layer of polyurethane lacquer. The thinness is key. It allows the wood to resonate freely while still providing durability. Once the colour is set, we apply thin layers of clear coat, letting them cure thoroughly for days or even weeks. Finally, the body is buffed and polished to a high-gloss shine. The neck, however, receives a thin satin finish, inspired by the oiled necks of our Custom Shop, so it feels worn-in and fast from the very first chord.
Once the paint is cured, your instrument moves to assembly. The neck and body are matched and joined. The custom Goldsound® pickups, Precision Tuners™, and bridges we prepared in Step 2 are carefully installed. Potentiometers, capacitors, and switches are soldered, frets pressed, and nut gets installed.
Your Baum is fully built. It looks like a guitar. It feels like a guitar. Next, we have to make sure it plays like one.
