How it worksThe Backwing™ has been part of Baum since 2016, making it one of our longest-running designs. Inspired by the spirit of classic rock 'n' roll guitars, it brings together bold offset curves, vintage character and a distinctly Baum identity.
Now, for the first time, we're bringing that same design and idea into the VEGA Series, making it more accessible to players around the world.
The Backwing VEGA features a lightweight mahogany body, paired with a satin-finished roasted maple neck and a 12" radius rosewood fretboard. It's a familiar combination that delivers warm resonance, comfortable playability and a natural feel, whether you're playing rhythm, lead or somewhere in between.
At the heart of the Backwing are two Goldsound® Ember™ P90 pickups.
Built with Alnico V magnets, they capture the raw character of classic P90s with a clear, dynamic response and plenty of midrange punch. The bridge pickup brings bite and definition for crunchy riffs and driven rock tones, while the neck offers a warmer, fuller voice for bluesy leads, expressive melodies and rich cleans.
It's a combination that gives the Backwing plenty of room to explore. From vintage blues and classic rock to indie and alternative, it can sound smooth and soulful one moment, gritty and loud the next.
Baum Performer™ hardware keeps things simple and reliable, with the familiar feel and tuning stability you'd expect from a guitar made for regular playing.
The VEGA Series follows a simple idea: take everything we've learned from our Custom Shop and Original Series and bring it into a more accessible instrument. By making production simpler and more efficient, we can keep our focus on the things that matter most: design, feel, sound and quality.
Nearly a decade after its introduction, the Backwing is still unmistakably Baum. Now there's a new way to make it yours.
A Baum original since 2016. Now as VEGA.

Every Baum goes through several quality control points. The final step happens in our Danish Custom Shop where each instrument is personally inspected and tested by our guitar tech team of professional musicians. We’re very picky and go over every detail and part.
Our process:
Delivery inspection: Each guitar is unpacked, examined, and approved for build quality and finish.
Hardware & electronics: Each instrument gets the Baum Premium Set-up. Read more about that.
Performance test: Finally, our set-up team play and fine-tune the guitar to ensure it meets Baum’s tone and feel standards.
Nothing leaves our hands until it matches our quality for how it plays, sounds, and looks.
Every Baum is refined by hand in Denmark by our guitar tech setup team of professional musicians. Our guitar techs inspect, adjust, and play test each guitar to bring out the best of each as they know what it takes to be a performer.
Frets & fret ends – crowned and smoothed by hand.
Nut setup – inspected and cut for the optimal height and zero friction.
Truss rod & action – fine-tuned for the best playability.
Pickup height & intonation – dialed in for balanced tones and precise intonation across the neck.
Hardware – tested and tightened for lasting reliability.
Strings – we trust D’addario 10-46. Strings are replaced if needed for a fresh, consistent feel.
Final inspection & polish – every curve checked, every detail cleaned.
Play test – every Baum is played by our luthiers before shipping.
Stage-ready the moment you plug it in.
We offer easy returns within 45 days from delivery for orders placed online through our web shop.
We know that the best place to test your new instrument is with your gear, music and time. So enjoy 45 days to try it at home and decide if it’s a keeper.
