WHY WE MAKE SO FEW GUITARS.

WHY WE MAKE SO FEW GUITARS

We’re often asked why we produce our electric guitars in such small batches. Why not scale up, mass-produce, and get more guitars into more hands faster? The answer is simple: small-scale production is at the heart of what makes our guitars special. We started as a one-man custom shop making one guitar at a time, and even though we’ve grown since then, we still want to keep that spirit with us.

We aren’t just about cranking out guitars. We’re about craftsmanship, attention to detail, and ensuring that each guitar is ready to rock stages all over the world. By focusing on smaller batches—typically ranging from just a few to less than a hundred per model—we can put more time and care into each piece. This results in guitars much closer to our original custom guitars topped with better quality control and custom features that wouldn’t be possible if we had focused on mass production where speed and pricing are the focus.

The only real downside is the waiting time. Each batch often has a 5–6-month lead time because we’re not just making our guitars in small batches, but also our custom-made hardware, like the Levitator roller-bridge™, TrueTone Tremolo™, and Precision Tuners™, but also our Goldsound® pickups are made on order for each batch. In total, we make fewer guitars per year than some big brands make in a week. But when you care for something, it’s often worth waiting for.

Small-batch production allows us to experiment with different materials, finishes, and hardware options. We can be more creative and flexible, making changes based on customer feedback or pushing the envelope with new ideas. Developing custom-made hardware for each of our models, launching the Goldsound pick-up brand, and trying new designs for our models have only been possible because we’re making so low quantities.

Lastly, smaller batches allow us to provide the best quality control at our Danish workshop. No matter where the guitar is crafted, we handle the final stages of production, inspecting each instrument by hand to ensure that every detail—whether it’s the finish, the fretwork, or the tone—is perfect.

Our small workshop team are players too and knows what a stage-ready instrument should feel like. Nothing leaves the shop unless it meets our high standards. This hands-on approach guarantees that every guitar is built not just to look and sound great, but to last a lifetime.

PREORDERS. WHY?

Preorders play a crucial role in this process. When you players preorder an instrument, it helps shape the direction of our production. In fact, you help us shape the direction of Baum Guitars.

By signaling which models, colors, or features players are most excited about, we can allocate our focus and resources to fine-tune our instruments. It’s not just about securing a guitar before it sells out; it’s about having a direct hand in shaping the future of a small, independent company. Preorders give us the confidence to innovate and expand while staying true to the handcrafted quality our players love.

Of course, this also makes each of our instruments a little bit extra special, because it’s created with an intention. When you own one of our guitars, you’re holding a special instrument that only a few around the world will ever have. And it’s made because someone wanted to play it. Each model is part of a limited run, so every guitar becomes a piece of a our legacy. And when you play it, it becomes part of yours too.

Sure, this process means fewer guitars are available at any given time, and the next delivery might not be until next year. But we believe it’s worth the wait. Each guitar we produce is crafted with precision, passion, and an unwavering dedication to quality. We’re not just making guitars; we’re making instruments that inspire musicians to create their best work.

So, while it may seem tempting to scale up, we choose to stay small. We believe that in this fast-paced, mass-produced world, there’s something truly special about slow, deliberate craftsmanship. And we think our players agree.

    what is split payment?

We’ll divide your purchase amount into four/six payments, billed to your current credit card. The split payment is only available on preorders and not instruments in stock.

    How it works

There are no fees or penalties for paying your balance early, but the earliest delivery will be when the item is in stock.

By proceeding with Baum Guitars’ Split Payments plan, you promise to keep enough credit available on the card you have provided so that future installments can be charged to that card. If the card expires or is canceled, you agree to notify Baum Guitars and supply an alternative card with the necessary funds available before the next payment is due.

As with any credit card purchase, you are responsible for all interest and/or fees levied by your credit card company.

    why pre-order?

Baum is a small company, and we make guitars in small batches. We value quality over quantity any day, and preorders help us to keep our production as precise as possible.

Each preorder has a huge impact on our small business and is uniquely meaningful. Our players are people who like high quality, a smooth feeling and like to play different, and instrument preorders can help ensure that we deliver that.

So, what do you get with a preorder?

The obvious downside is the wait…Preordered items will have an estimated delivery date in the future. But let’s look at why it’s worth waiting for.

By preordering, you get to confirm a purchase within our next-coming batch. Because we do small-scale production, our batches are often sold out before they get to Denmark, so this way you will be guaranteed one.

This is why you get an instrument that in many ways is special. First, the entire instrument is designed from our Danish philosophy and based on our years of experience as luthiers. All our designs are our own and are made to bring you fresh inspiration.

Second, we make our own hardware for our instruments. Our Precision Tuners™, Levitator™ Roller bridge, and TrueTone™ tremolo are all designed to fit our instruments perfectly.
Our Goldsound® pickups are also designed and made to our instruments only.

Lastly, we give all guitars a solid quality control and set-up in Denmark before we ship it. We handle this step in our custom workshop in Aarhus, Denmark to give you the best experience possible.

We hope you’ll consider a preorder from us.
