Monthly Update 1: Made-to-Order & Wood Sourcing
Your new Baum is being made right now. And it's being made because of you.
We don't believe in mass-producing thousands of guitars just to have them sit in a warehouse. We build in small, intentional batches. Micro-batches compared to most of the industry. And we plan them entirely around what you, the players, want. When you placed your preorder, you didn't just reserve a guitar; you initiated its creation. You decide how we structure our production.
This made-to-order philosophy means we only use the exact resources required. Zero waste. Everything is carefully planned, and the journey of your specific instrument has officially begun.
The very first physical step is selecting the wood. Working with wood is a wonderful thing. It's an organic, living material that fundamentally shapes how your guitar will feel, weigh, and sound. Because of its nature, every single piece has unique traits, which means your guitar will have its own distinct character before it even looks like an instrument.
We have a recipe that works beautifully for the Baum sound. We use mahogany for our solid bodies, chosen for its warmth and resonance. For the necks, we use maple that has been roasted (also called torrefied) in a low-oxygen kiln. This process removes moisture, deepens the colour to a rich chocolate or amber, and crystallises the internal resins. The result is a neck that is incredibly stable, resisting changes in humidity and string tension. For our fretboards, we select premium rosewood, specially treated to enhance both tone and feel.
Right now, the wood for your guitar is being processed from raw lumber into blanks. It has been carefully dried to the perfect moisture level, cut, and planed. It might just look like blocks of wood today, but the foundation of your tone is already set.
Welcome to the journey. We'll be in touch next month.
