Monthly Update 3: Shaping the Body and Neck
This is the month where blocks of wood finally become a guitar.
We start with modern technology. Our advanced CNC machines take the prepared mahogany and roasted maple blanks and carve them into the unmistakable Baum shapes. The CNC ensures absolute precision: the exact body contours, the neck profiles, the perfect fretboard radius. Consistency at this stage is crucial. It guarantees that the geometry of the instrument is flawless before any human hand touches it.
But machines only take us so far. A Baum isn't a Baum until it has been shaped by human hands.
Once the CNC work is done, our skilled luthiers take over. This is where the true craftsmanship shines. Every single body and neck is carefully hand-sanded and refined. The luthiers carve the cutaways to feel natural, shape the neck so it sits perfectly in your palm, and ensure the neck heel fits flawlessly into the body pocket.
They also apply the bindings to the bodies, necks, and headstocks. It's a delicate process that requires a steady hand and a sharp eye. It's during this stage that the guitar gains its tactile character. The luthiers are feeling the wood as they work, ensuring a consistent, comfortable experience across the entire batch.

Your guitar now has its shape, its curves, and its physical identity. It's sanded smooth and ready for the next transformation: colour.
